Fletcher, a not very-well-supervised middle-schooler, lives with his little brother, Lewis, and his grandfather, a famous – in a top-secret sort of way – scientist who works at home trying to invent a portable smokescreen for the military. When Fletcher answers questions on a phone survey, he is mistakenly sent an experimental day planner as his reward. This day planner doesn’t just passively record the information Fletcher enters, it actively suggests things to do. The hitch is that the things the day planner suggests aren’t necessarily the things Fletcher would have chosen for himself.
